It is used in automation arrays, for starting high power motors, ensuring a smooth transition from star to delta connection. In addition to the basic delay time between star and delta (3-30sec), an intermediate transition time (20-300msec) can be set to avoid the magnetic coupling of the two relays which leads to their simultaneous arming.
